Export failed

Steps to try when an export stops or shows an error.

Updated 7 October 2026

Try these in order.

  1. Check disk space. Exports need room, ProRes especially. Free some up and try again.
  2. Check the destination. Save to your computer's own drive, not a disconnected disk or a folder you cannot write to.
  3. Check for missing media. See Missing media. Relink anything missing.
  4. Turn off hardware encoding. In the export panel, switch to software encoding. See Hardware encoding.
  5. Update your graphics driver on Windows and Linux.
  6. Try another preset or codec. If H.264 works and HEVC does not, you know where to look.
  7. Export a shorter part. Set in and out points to find which part causes the trouble.

Still failing?

Email [email protected] with your system, the preset you chose and the message you saw. It helps a lot.
