ProRes master

Export a high-quality ProRes 422 HQ file to keep or to edit elsewhere.

Updated 7 October 2026

A master is a high-quality copy of your finished video. Keep it, and you can make smaller versions from it later.

Export one

Press CmdCtrl+E and choose Master (ProRes 422 HQ). It saves a .mov file at your project's size and frame rate.

File size

ProRes files are large. A few minutes of video can take several gigabytes. Make sure you have the space before you start.

When to use it

  • To archive a project in high quality.
  • To hand footage to someone else to continue editing.
  • To make several smaller versions from one master.

Playing it

Most video editors play ProRes. Many everyday players on Windows and Linux do not, so make an H.264 export for sharing.
