Colour grading and LUTs

Looks, wheels, curves, your own LUTs and a histogram to check your work.

Updated 8 October 2026

Start with a look

In Shenron, open Filters, select a clip and click a look to try it. Choose None to take it off. When a look is on, a Strength slider lets you ease it back. Kaptcho comes with 35 looks, and the Import LUT tile at the end lets you add your own .cube file.

Fine-tune

In Shenron, open Adjust for Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Warmth and Vignette.

In Porunga, the Colour section of the Inspector has three views. Basic has Look, Exposure, Contrast, Highlights, Shadows, Saturation, Temperature, Tint, Brightness, Vignette, Sharpen and Blur. Wheels has colour wheels for Shadows, Midtones, Highlights and Offset. Curves gives you a curve to shape the tones. HSL lets you pick a colour band and change its Hue, Saturation and Lightness. The reset button puts everything back.

Use a LUT

A LUT is a file that holds a colour grade, often made for a camera or a film look. Kaptcho reads .cube files.

  1. Select a clip.
  2. In Shenron, open Filters and choose the Import LUT tile. In Porunga, open the Colour section of the Inspector and choose Import LUT beside the LUT menu.
  3. Pick your .cube file. It is checked and kept, so you can use it again.

In Porunga, the LUT menu starts with No LUT, then the looks, then your own files marked "(yours)". Use LUT strength to ease the grade back and blend it with the original.

Check the picture

Switch on Scopes above the viewer (or press CmdCtrl+7) for a luma histogram. It shows how bright your picture really is, and warns about crushed blacks and clipped whites.
