The magnetic timeline
How the primary storyline and connected clips keep your edit in order.
The timeline has a primary storyline in the middle. Clips on it are magnetic. They stay next to each other with no gaps.
Primary storyline
- Drop a clip between two others and they move apart to make room.
- Delete a clip and the ones after it slide back to close the gap.
- Drag a clip to a new place and the rest rearrange around it.
Connected clips
Titles, cutaways, sound effects and music above or below the storyline are connected to the clip they sit over. Move that clip and they move with it.
Three ways to add a clip
Select a clip in the media area, then:
- Press Q to connect it above the storyline at the playhead.
- Press W to insert it into the storyline at the playhead.
- Press E to append it to the end.
Keeping a gap on purpose
Place a gap clip from the edit menu when you want a pause that stays put.
